In this inquiry, students will read about the Devadasis, who are girls dedicated to Hindu temples to be “married” to a Hindu deity. These are often girls from low-caste, economically poor backgrounds whose parents can not afford to keep their daughter, who need the protection from upper-castes and religious authorities which comes from having a devadasi in the family, or who believe that dedicating a daughter to the deity will ensure blessings and protections from the family. Included with this item is: the lesson plan and a lesson specific powerpoint, and a teacher material to help facilitate the lesson. If you modify any of the materials please feel free to send them back to us, so we can see where you made changes.
