In this inquiry, students will read primary material on the the Sarda Act 1929, also known as the Child Marriage Restraint Act, was passed on 28th September 1929 and fixed the age of marriage for girls at 14 and for boys at 18 years old. Students will look at the All-India Women’s Conference, Women’s Indian Association, and National Council of Women in India and evaluate how they all joined forces to petition for the raising of the age of consent and the age of marriage.
